The thread about why so many people had acrimonious divorces with the X-Files is still going strong, mostly because it got mentioned in [livejournal.com profile] metafandom. This is my favorite recent comment:

Season 6. Episode 7. "Terms of Endearment".

Mulder, discussing the case with Scully: "I'm not a psychologist."

I am not joking when I tell you that I jumped up off of my couch and started shouting at the television.

YES YOU ARE! YOU ARE A FUCKING PSYCHOLOGIST! THAT'S THE ENTIRE PREMISE OF WHY YOU DO WHAT YOU DO, YOU FUCKING OXFORD GRADUATE IN PSYCHOLOGY!

Sadly, last week's episode of Veronica Mars affected me the same way. (Not this week's, which was pre-empted for basketball, but from what I heard about it, that's just as well.) Bye-bye, it was good while it was good, I'll mail you your toothbrush in between making out with Supernatural-- which, as of this season, is not only sexier than you, but also less sexist.

I agree with said commenter! And had a similar reaction! Not even the presence of Bruce Campbell could save it. A moment of amnesiac writer utter stupidity has never seared itself into my memory like that one.

(YES YOU ARE A PSYCHOLOGIST FOX WILLIAM MULDER WOULD YOU LIKE ME TO GO PRINT OUT YOUR RESUME FOR YOU I HAVE A SCREENCAP OF IT)

I am very fond of a lot of episodes from season 6, but when they were bad, they were Alpha harbingers of what was to come: single episodes or moments of charm that lapsed farther and farther apart as the overarching structure rotted.

VMars? Less sexist than Supernatural? What the hell did I miss?

Supernatural: This season has had much more interesting and active female characters than last, such as Tess in "In My Time of Dying," Ellen, Jo learning to hunt in "No Exit," and Linda Blair as a very convincing cop.

Veronica Mars (massive spoilers; issues elaborated in comments):

Good God. That is beyond revolting. I'd been wanting to get back into Veronica Mars for a while now; this has just completely crushed any desire. Never watching that show again.

Well. Now I no longer have to feel bad about never watching VM.

. . . I'd forgotten that. Ohhh, that poor show.

There were also multiple occasions where Scully forgot she was a doctor. (They might be mentioned in the giant thread of X-Files divorce stories, which I have open in a separate tab and will go back to read because first, I want to find out what happened at that trial.)
