Inspired by [livejournal.com profile] liviapenn's recent poll, but with fandoms I know.

Please white out any spoilers in comments; note that I did not state fandoms for spoilery questions.

[Poll #873544]

I think you mean Dawn Summers as your younger sister...and I already have her, thanks. I watched season five of Buffy with a dawning horror of recognition.

(I'm still waiting for mine to turn awesome and learn Sumerian, though.)

Drat! Damn the inability to edit polls, which always means I make tons of typos on them.

*looks at father choices* I don't suppose I can have Mr. Bennett from Pride and Prejudice instead?

Yes. That.

Though I'd probably end up with Sir Walter Eliot.

At first I chose Dean Winchester for older brother, but then I realized that would be kind of incestuous. But then again, I'm not sure Temari is any better.

From: [identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com

I chose Sam on these grounds:

1. He is an awesome younger brother.

2. He likes having an older sibling take care of him and protect him, and I like taking care of and protecting people, so it would be a mutually satisfying relationship. Plus, he wouldn't take "I'm fine" for an answer when it isn't true, which would be as good as having a therapist.

3. If Dean is my brother, I can't have sex with him.

See, Dean is kind of like one of my older brothers, in the having-crazy-adventures kind of way.

But yeah, the incest would be a problem. Pity I can't change my answer.

Not anymore. And she's fantastic--former white-water guide, tall, beautiful, athletic, smart, well-traveled, physics degree from Berkeley. I got very lucky in my SILs.

The thing about King Lear is, after he yells at me for being ungrateful, he's just gonna fuck off to the countryside, go mad, and die. I can handle that.

From: [identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com

That was kind of my theory about Sawyer: he'd be an awful parent, but on the positive side, he'd never be around.

From: [identity profile] em-h.livejournal.com

If I were participating in this poll (which I'm not because I know too few of the fandoms), I would totally pick Sawyer on those exact grounds. Plus he mostly seems to sleep with women who have a strong sense of self-preservation, so I could be reasonably assured of having a competent mother.

Right. And I'm much too mean to be Cordelia, so I might even survive the end of the play. Wait. Now I can't remember what happens to Regan and Goneril, but since *Lear* is a tragedy, it's bound to be terrible.

From: [identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com

I think Regan poisons Goneril and then Edmund stabs Regan to death, or else Goneril poisons Regan. Also, if Lear is your father, you might be named Goneril.

From: [identity profile] tekalynn.livejournal.com

*raises hand*

Goneril poisons Regan, then stabs herself after Edmund is killed in single combat by Edgar. Cordelia isn't involved in any of this, but dies anyway.

From: [identity profile] tekalynn.livejournal.com

"Yet Edmund was beloved. For one the other poisoned for my sake, and after slew herself."

Edmund may be a rotter, but I still feel bad for him.

From: [identity profile] laurashapiro.livejournal.com

I thought that after he stayed with them for a while and drove them crazy with all his slaves and manservants and soldiers and all that needed to be fed and housed, he just buggered off and that was the end of it.

Did they come to bad ends? I thought we just didn't hear from them after that.

::goes to wikipedia::

Hmm, evidently they die, but we learn about that secondhand. I'm not sure of the context.

Feh. That's the thing about tragedies: "You die, she dies, everybody dies."

From: [identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com

No, my bad; Goneril poisons Regan, then stabs herself.

You could go with the A Thousand Acres option and [highlight spoilers] all of you live, at least until one of you dies of cancer, but you end up with sex abuse and legal wrangling. Also, you have to live in Iowa.

I would have picked Dean Winchester as my older brother (because he is AWESOME! and would do *anything* for me!), except then I couldn't have sex with him. I almost picked Hakkai for the inverse reason, but I am not convinced sex with Hakkai is worth being abducted, abused, raped, impregnated, and driven to suicide by a caterpillar demon.

Buffy can be my older sister because then I could be assured of surviving any forthcoming apocalypse. Also I love her.

John Winchester is way too sexy to be my dad. I'd never pick him.

From: [identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com

I went for Sam over Dean for the exact same reason (see comment.) And also, if I'd had Dean as my older brother, my life would have been so different that I would be a very different person, so it's hard to imagine. Buffy would have been my second choice. (I guess the same caveat applies, except with Buffy there's always the possibility that I could have sprung into existence rather than have always had her around.)

See, I feel the Winchesters go together: if Sam Winchester is your brother, so is Dean. (Unless you *are* Dean. Are you your own sibling?)

From: [identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com

I was thinking that you take the place of your choice's actual sibling, hence the preservation of the birth order. Very Mary Sue, come to think of it!

I picked Simon as an older brother since a) I have always secretly wanted an older brother and b) obviously he would go to the ends of the earth and beyond for me. Also, no medical bills!

My runner-up with be Ed, for similar reasons (except for the medical bills, since Ed would probably cause more medical mishaps than anything).

I think Gaara would be the worst little brother ever, pre-certain-arcs!

Titus Andronicus at least loves *his* biological kids, although I'm never, ever letting him set foot in my kitchen. Or asking him to be a stepfather to my (nonexistent anyway) kids.

I am the only person who unironically loves Hohenheim of Light, aren't I.

I chose Temari as my older sister because I would love to learn valuable life lessons about being a hot kickass independent woman and learn how to kill people with fan weasels, and she would smack me lovingly upside the head when I was being a dumbass (as I have no demon in me for her to be terrified of).

But I am using my Iruka icon because I need him here to Make Everything Better from the other questions. Oh, Iruka. And never will I not get my heart squeezed by this scene with him, the quiet little moment of him giving up for once on playing serious and going, "Oh, man, it is crazy how much I love this kid."

It was the ridiculousness of his anime entrance. I could not NOT love him.

He will make a great ninja-grampa

Sibling: out of FMA, Firefly, Saiyuki, and the Lymond Chronicles: Simon Tam.

Bad Father: out of FMA, Lost, and Shakespeare: Sawyer, for the reasons given previously.

Good Father: out of FMA & Pride and Prejudice: Mr. Bennet.

Mother: I only recognize fandoms 1-3, though I don't watch 1, and I have to pick #3 because of [spoiler]. Unless #4 is really really bad, I think #3 wins hands-down.

From: [identity profile] ruffwriter.livejournal.com

Sam would be an awesome younger brother. ♥

I was so torn between Hughes and Bad Glasses Man as my dad, though... but Hughes would be better, even if Mr. Bennet could use his lackeys to solve all your problems.

From: [identity profile] jinian.livejournal.com

best poll!

Aw, no one has picked Ed Elric yet. I don't want him to feel bad! But, dude, Temari.

I am sort of at a bad-father handicap, since I have seen one Lost and know no one's name.

The potential for sex is a great motivator for me as well!
I feel like kind of a perv for wanting to do Kankurou, though.

From: [identity profile] tekalynn.livejournal.com

How could anyone not want a sweet, smart, loving little brother like Al?!

(I do have a brother named Al, but he's the older one.)

From: [identity profile] juliansinger.livejournal.com

Which is the sword mother?

(Me, I figured Simon is /very very loyal/. This is useful in an older brother.)

also, sand siblings are go!

From: [identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com

There is a giant robot chicken in Planet Ladder. It is not actually anyone's mother, but it is the body of the ghost of a student from WW II-era Japan.

My heart is broken that more people aren't choosing. Al. I mean, Al.
