Until further notice, I am going largely offline.

I will still post and read comments to my own LJ, and I will check email. But I will mostly not be keeping up with my f-list. If you have a personal or amusing/cheering/pretty post up which you'd like me to see, please email me the link and I'll read it.

hopefully cheery things

This is all stuff that was on my flist right below your post, so I consider it serendipitous!

via giandujakiss: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0911/63909.html Minutes after the repeal of the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy took effect at midnight, Navy Lt. Gary Ross and his partner were married in a Vermont ceremony that emphasized the new freedom of expression that gay soldiers can now embrace. The picture made me cry.

via jonquil: http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2011/sep/20/burial-cemeteries-dead?commentpage=all#start-of-comments "Time for funerals to be decently buried!" Most popular so far: sky burial, being donated to science (they still bury you after that, don't they?), Soylent Green.

And I don't know if you've been keeping up with [personal profile] wonder_city but it's a great ongoing serial about "real superheroes," i.e. people who aren't Superman but aren't into all the Peter Parker shit either, and there's not only great diversity in the characters but it's also terribly funny, and really charming. The second volume is just wrapping up with a big climax so if you wanted, you could go back to the beginning or play catchup with some of the "reruns" of old episodes that the author's re-posting about every other day so people can read along (come to think of it, this is what cable stations used to do with Buffy, heh).
