I wrote seven stories for this Chocolate Box!

Dragonlance - Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman

Kitiara and Laurana’s Baby Dragon Café. Kitiara/Laurana. 1099 words. It made perfect sense for Kitiara and Laurana to open a baby dragon café.

In which Kitiara discovers that some things are too evil even for her. I cannot even tell you how much delight it gave me to write [personal profile] yhlee's prompt "Kitiara and Laurana open a baby dragon petting coffee shop."

Dragonriders of Pern - Anne McCaffrey

The Colors of the South. Brekke & Wirenth. 541 words. Brekke needs a break. Wirenth makes sure she gets one.

Those two really needed a day at the beach in which nothing terrible happens.

Vanity Fair. Menolly & fire lizards. 889 words. Menolly's fire lizards are sometimes very helpful. Other times, not so much.

[personal profile] scioscribe suggested the fire lizards helping Menolly with her chores, a la Disney Princess animals. (This is actually more-or-less canon given the time they fetch her pipes.) I figured it might be more like "helping."

Dune (2021 movie)

Sand and Water, Spice and Blood. Liet Kynes & Shai Hulud. A girl and her sandworm.

Dr. Liet Kynes was my absolute favorite part of the recent movies. I was very happy to see that I wasn't the only Chocolate Box participant who wanted more of her.

Miss Mack - Michael McDowell. (Short story online.)

A Lifetime of Saturdays. Miss Mack/Janice Faulk. 1666 words (yes, on purpose). Janice to the rescue!

I wanted to write a fix-it for the unique and charming canon couple, Miss Mack and Janice, while keeping it a horror story. Horror doesn't have to mean that the heroes meet a terrible fate. Sometimes the villains do.

Star Trek: The Original Series.

The Seven-Year Booty Call. T'Pring/Uhura. 1686 words.

What would it be like to meld minds with a powerful telepath in the grip of a raw, irresistible, hormone-driven sexual frenzy?

“I understand if you decline,” T’Pring began. “Logically, for a human, such a thing would be—”

“Incredibly hot,” said Uhura, and closed the distance between them.

X-Men (Comics)

A Grace Too Powerful To Name. Illyana Rasputin & Rachel Summers. 3472 words. Illyana intercepts Rachel at a crucial moment.

Writing this story, a fix-it for Rachel's absolute lowest moment in a life full of them, was SO SATISFYING. I think it's been in the back of my mind ever since I was sixteen.

I initially meant to write X-Men/New Mutants treats for everyone who requested them, but alas, it didn't happen. So I'm really glad this was my assignment!

the Chocolate Box collection is open!

I got SIX gifts for Chocolate Box, and I wrote SIX treats!

I highly recommend my wonderful gifts, and will be happily going through the rest of the collection.

Star Trek: The Original Series

Creature Comforts. 2170 words. Janice Rand/Nyota Uhura. Uhura and Rand still have to spend two more weeks stranded on this swamp planet. They're safe enough--but it's the little things, or their absence, that get to you.

Hurt-comfort! Wilderness survival! Hair kink! Delicious alien foods!

True Detective (Season One)

The Gleam of His Skin. 1226 words. Rust Cohle/Marty Hart. This happened later. Or before, maybe.

Sharply written, pitch-dark Lovecraftian AU, horror shot through with an aching grasp at human connection.

Wheel of Time (TV)

Steady as the Mountains. 1553 words. Moiraine and Lan, one day, one year, and twenty years into their bond.

A beautiful look at Moiraine and Lan's soulbond and enduring relationship, which goes far beyond the magic of the bond.

X-Men (Comics)

I got THREE fantastic pieces of art for my favorite F/F X-Men ships! Someone was very, very kind to me. They're all worksafe.

swept up. Kitty Pryde/Rachel Summers. Just some shameless smooching!

A sexy, exuberant Excalibur-era pin-up.

recovery & recuperation. Illyana Rasputin/Kitty Pryde/Rachel Summers. In which Kitty’s girlfriends take care of HER, for a change. Whether she likes it or not.

A delightful h/c comic strip, full of adorable little details.

(only) reflections. Ororo & Illyana. A shopping trip at the mall, entirely sans demons.

OMFG, someone made art from one of my stories! A gorgeous illustration with a whole lot of thought, full of amazing details and 80s fashion.

If you enjoy these, please kudos or comment!

How has your Chocolate Box experience been? What have you enjoyed in the collection so far?

Dear Chocolatier,

Thank you for creating for me! If you have any questions, please check with the mods. I am a very easy recipient and will be delighted with whatever you create for me. I have no special requirements beyond what's specifically stated in my DNWs. I'm fine with all POVs (i.e., first, second, third), tenses, ratings, etc. I like short fics, long fics, and in-between fics. Similarly, there are no art styles I dislike.

My AO3 name is Edonohana.

I like hurt-comfort, action/adventure, domestic life, survival situations, mysterious alien technology, worldbuilding, evocative descriptions, camaraderie, loyalty, trauma recovery, learning to love again or trust again or enjoy life again, miniature things, food, and animals.

Art-specific likes: I like watercolors, bold graphics, Tarot cards, comics, pin-ups, characters in pretty/cozy environments, battle poses, and Art Nouveau. You can never go wrong by posing a character using their powers or with an adorable kitten/tiny dragon/pegasus/etc.

I have requested a bunch of these canons before. All prompts in previous exchanges are still valid and welcomed. You can find them by clicking on the "fic exchange letter" tag.

I got matched to [personal profile] scioscribe again, who hopefully is not sick of me.

She had so many wonderful prompts, I initially had ambitions of writing her multiple stories in multiple fandoms, but life intervened and I only managed one, for the inspired prompt of seeing the Dark Tower ka-tet from Oy's point of view. This was a challenge to write, both because I needed to figure out billy-bumbler speech and perceptions, and because I did my usual thing of picking some weird complex structure and then banging my head against it. But I ended up very happy with how it came out, and also got the chance to use the tag "Original Billy-Bumblers."

The Bad Thing by [profile] edonohana. Dark Tower - Stephen King.

There was a bad thing in the woods. Oy could smell it.

I got THREE wonderful gifts!

Like Flint and Like Fire by [personal profile] sheliak. The Entropy Effect - Vonda N. McIntyre.

A stranded away mission gives Jenniver a chance to figure some things out.

The Jenniver Aristeides/Snnanagfashtalli story of my dreams, full of tenderness and hope and lovely sfnal details.

I also got two original stories about children discovering tiny magical creatures in their own backyards. Both are absolutely full of delightful details of tininess and the obsessions of childhood, of magic interacting with the mundane world.

Rory and the Dragon by [personal profile] cirque. An abused child brings a plastic dragon to life, with far-reaching ripple effects.

Small Magic is Everywhere by [personal profile] silex. A boy obsessed with horses discovers unexpected magic.

I will hopefully have more recs later - I have been busy and barely had a chance to dip into the collection beyond my own gifts.

I wrote three stories for Chocolate Box this year!

Watch For Me By The Moonlight. Original fiction for the pairing Female Wounded Stranger/Female Homesteader.

It involves a snowstorm, and I was RL snowed in when I wrote it! Sherwood and I left Mariposa three days later than we'd originally intended, and only barely made it out in the very brief window of time in which some snow had melted, much more had been shoveled, and more snow hadn't had a chance to accumulate. It was starting to snow again when we left, and by that evening there were three more inches on the ground.

The Life of a Cell. Annihilation (movie). The being that leaves the Shimmer carries with it some of both Lena and Dr. Ventress.

Sisters. Shadows of the Apt, by Adrian Tchaikovsky. Che and Tynisa as young girls, standing up for each other.

Huge spoilers for all stories below cut - they're short, please read any first if you plan to read before clicking. Read more... )

I got four fantastic stories for Chocolate Box this year!

Once and Future. Dark Tower - Stephen King. The ka-tet explores some more, and finds a different kind of tower. Lovely Mid-World story with the requisite bonding, eerie imagery, and metafictional elements.

Tech Support. The Punisher. David is the Punisher's tech support. That's okay. It's fine. Hilarious and poignant and all things wonderful.

born with the gift of a golden voice. The Stand - Stephen King. Larry is touring Las Vegas when the superflu hits. Flagg finds him in a hotel room. Beautifully written, and fucking creepy in the very best way.

Long Way Down. True Detective. Rivers of history inside of every human being. Gorgeous imagery, perfectly in-character Rust/Marty

Art Recs (all worksafe; some kissing with clothes on):

Left-Hand Man.. The Dragon Prince. Harrow and Viren kissing.

it's all been done.
Good Omens
- Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett. "You go your way, I go mine, but I’ll see you next time ..."

SSSS Homage to Peter Max. Stand Still Stay Silent. The whole crew, done in the style of Peter Max, the noted psychedelic artist, best known for his work on the animated movie "Yellow Submarine."

Ebb and Flow. Wonder Woman. Darling it's better, down where it's wetter ;)

I Have Loved the Stars Too Fondly. Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Rose and Paige Tico.

Comic Book Rec (generally work safe; making out but no full nudity)

Union of Heart. Original Fiction. When the recently widowed Duke of Bridgewater discovers he has inherited a cotton mill where the workers are striking, he decides to investigate the conditions of the workers and meets the impulsive Edward Mann, the union leader for his mill.

A delightful 11-page comic book romance for the pairing "Impulsive Trade Union Leader/Recently Widowed Young Duke."

Fic Recs (don't need to know canon):

Lace. Words: 470. Ephie is dressed in traditional Lephratan style, and is ready to meet her bride. NOTE: You used the magic phrase: costume porn. If someone says they’re open to costume porn, I must satisfy them! Original F/F. Sensual and sweet; as promised, the costume porn is excellent.

Fic Recs (better if you know canon):

get a little closer, let fold. Annihilation (2018 Garland). Anya can't get the way Josie smells out of her head. F/F. Tagged "porn without plot," but it's actually a fantastic example of how to convey character, atmosphere, theme, and setting by means of sex. Really well-done.

Three Times Lucky. Defenders. There is no such thing as luck, no such thing as magic fish, and Jessica wants a refund for this day. Short and hilarious; more fish jokes than you can shake a pole at.

Challenge Accepted. Iron Fist (TV). Misty doesn't have the Iron Fist, but she has an iron fist. G-rated but nonetheless extremely hot F/F, well-characterized and well-written.

Steady Gun Hand. Iron Fist (TV). Infected bullet wounds and heart to heart talks while hiding out from gangsters in Indonesia: just another day on the Rand-Meachum road trip of self-discovery. Great hurt-comfort, wilderness survival, characterization, and snarky dialogue.

I wrote three stories this Chocolate Box if you want to take a guess.
Thank you so much for writing for me! I love this exchange and I really look forward to whatever you create for me. I have requested fic only due to my total inability to come up with art prompts. However, if anyone would like to do an art treat, I would love that. Worksafe only please.

I have requested all of these fandoms before except for 'Salem's Lot, and you can find even more prompts by clicking the "fic exchange letter" tag. All previous prompts for these pairings are still valid.

If you want to cross any of these fandoms over with each other, feel free!

Original Fiction

Road, Wind, Cactus. There is a long highway that stretches through a desert with many names, and somewhere on it sits a coffee shop.

A story about a coffee shop that sometimes has milk and often has sand, where the baking is fresh, the soup's meat is real, the waitress is part metal and radiation storms haven't been seen for decades.

Star makes drinks. Ruger makes promises. And between them, they have a dream.

A post-apocalyptic slice of life, with real-feeling characters, excellent worldbuilding, and a humane, "life goes on" sensibility.

Interesting Strangers. Butch Space Mercenary/Butch Space Mercenary. A stranger, a bar fight, and a good time. Just another night on Phoenix Station.

Funny and sweet, set in a scruffy, livable-feeling future where the bars have servo-mechs but the space stations are still vainly trying to ban durians. Also, spanking.

Black Sails

Relentless Pursuit. John Silver/Miranda Barlow. Silver tries to get some info from Miranda, and Miranda gets some fun out of him. No on-page sex; this is all about the games and maneuvering leading up to it.

Hamilton

It Must Be Nice. Aaron Burr/Alexander Hamilton. Fully three-quarters of what he knows about Aaron Burr he knows because of Alexander Hamilton. The most personal things Burr himself has unstopped his mouth long enough to say to him directly have been, effectively, I have a lot of money and pull, so don't fuck with me and I have a coat that same color. Inspiring stuff.

Intense, sharply written story from Washington's perspective, with vivid imagery, a ton of great lines, and a cameo by the feral tomcat Martha Washington named after him.

Benjamin January

The Devil's in the Moon. Ben/Rose/Shaw. Shaw doesn't mean to get himself shot, or to drag himself and his hairy, fanged problem to the Januarys' doorstep. But fate has a way of taking matters into its own hands.

Really sweet h/c, with Shaw as a very plausible werewolf. Dogs don't like to be bathed.

Madoka Magica

And the Stars are Watching Me. Madoka/Homura. “What if I wished for the stars?” Madoka asked. [...] “What if I wished we could just leave here, and—and see all the rest of the planets out there, explore forever without ever seeing any witches ever again?”

Short and heartbreaking.
Chocolate Box stories and art are here!

I would especially suggest taking a look at Original Works in addition to your favorite fandoms. There's a ton of stories that look great, featuring pairings like Female Nameless Drifter/Female Lonesome Barkeep, Superhero's Ghost/Same-Sex Villain Who Killed Them, Female Regency Crossdressing Rake/Regency Bluestocking, Charismatic Duke with a Flair for Logistics and City Planning/Pretty Male Assassin in His Employ, etc.

I got FOUR fantastic Chocolate Box gifts!

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Hamilton, Aaron Burr/Alexander Hamilton. In which the historical incident in which Burr lasted exactly 10 days on Washington's staff is transposed to the musicalverse. A sweet and heartbreaking day-by-day countdown of their mayfly affair. I especially liked how Burr learns a lot about himself and what he wants, but not in a way that benefits him. Which is very Aaron Burr.

Make Me Lose Control. Original Work,
Female Experimental Subject with Powers/Female Scientist. The tags do a good job of summarizing this: Telepathic Sex, Simulated Sex, Consensual Mind Control, Human Experimentation, Government Experimentation, Non-sexual torture, Guilt, Escape, Role Reversal. This has all my favorite id-tastic tropes related to the premise, some very original riffs on those tropes, and a central relationship that's both seriously kinky and surprisingly sweet.

Cyanide. The Punisher, Frank Castle/Billy Russo. Pitch-black and pitch-perfect. I can't say more without spoilers for either the show or the story, but if you like the pairing, this is an absolute must-read and a story that will stick with you.

Day at the Beach. The Punisher, Frank Castle/Karen Page. In which Frank and Karen get some much-needed and well-earned relaxation at the beach. Sweet as a box of Valentine's chocolates.
I'm requesting fic for my main gift, but if anyone wants to do an art treat, that would be 100% welcome! I love all kinds of art so long as it's worksafe. In bed together is fine, but no genitals showing.
