My parents got a frequent flyer offer in which they can add a third free ticket to two tickets they purchase, anywhere in the continental United States (ie, not Hawaii). They offered me the ticket as a graduation/late birthday present - destination of my choice. Isn't that sweet? I chose New Orleans. I have never been there, and I have always wanted to go. So I will get three days in New Orleans in mid-December! Woo-hoo!
Mid-December also marks the point at which, while I will not have technically graduated due to the traineeship requirement, I will have finished all my actual classwork. THANK GOD.
Please recommend anything New Orleans-related. I will be with my parents (Dad and step-mom), but they're fun to travel with, appreciate good food, and would probably be up for pretty much anything. We would all like to hit a fancy restaurant or two. Note that I am not a fan of oysters, okra, anything licorice-flavored including liquors, or jazz. (I don't hate jazz - I don't care if it's playing in the background - I just don't appreciate it enough for it to be the main attraction.)
I have read Poppy Z. Brite's Liquor: A Novel
. Great book! It's probably a big part of the reason why I wanted to visit.
