This is kind of reaching, and obviously I'm not generally going to mention Amazon reviews, but since I did make that promise and none of the pro reviewers have had worse feelings about the book than a general prejudice against 30-year-olds (I'm still grappling for an interpretation of the LA Times review's last sentence), I should mention that someone on amazon.com really hated Fishes.

so, I had to go to Amazon to buy it anyway, and snooped around the reviews. Don't let it get you down; from the objective viewpoint of Not-the-Author, I'd say it's more "mediocre" than "bad". Anyway no one is paying attention to it and you're being positively reviewed in major newspapers and everything, so WHO CARES what some ol' Amazon reviewer says?

I LOVE IT that "customers who viewed this book also viewed The Winter Prince"! Maybe I can ride on the coattails of your success--hah!

When I was poking about this afternoon, they were an Amazon-suggests-you-buy-these-together.

Same for me. And the page has three reader's guides on it, two of which mention The Winter Prince. XD

I had both of those (Fishes and WP) delivered together this week ... I wonder if I skewed Amazon.com! Muahahahaha!

Me too! I had pre-ordered Fishes ages ago, but just ordered The Winter Prince recently when Mely linked to the author's soon-out-of-print warning.

Not at all-- it means our LJs have a lot of overlap in readership.

"When you're done reading the "I grew up in a freakish ashram" book, read the "I was raised by my abusive aunt lover mother" book! Two dysfunctional childhoods, two female authors, two great reading experiences!"

Hey, at least you're mentioning the negative reviews with a bit more grace than the person who linked to my comments on her book, commented that I must have had the flu the day I wrote them; then linked to one other bad review; then said she'd link to all the good reviews too, but gosh darn there were just too many of them. (Okay, I added the "gosh darn" part in. :-)

you know, Rachel, I have to say, I completely disagree with this Amazon reviewer's assessment. But I think it is funny that one of her gripes seems to be that you never met Baba. Ummm... hello?

TOTALLY!

OH, WOW.

Ghod, I devoured so many of those books in sixth grade it's a wonder my frontal lobes didn't fall out.

Do you remember the brouhaha about some parents somewhere all upset that their kids were reading The Giver (or that it was in the library and the kids *might* read it)? They felt that kids should be protected from hearing about unhappy and scary things.

*hahahahaha*
