My mother sent me some gorgeous photos she took of her neighborhood in semi-rural India. (Ahmednagar, two hours from Pune, Maharashtra.)

A Gul Mohur. They burst into bloom in summer.

Elephants are a rare sight in that state.

Sunrise.

Monkeys are rare, too.

Sunrise at the reservoir.

So lovely. I'm glad you can still appreciate the beauty of the place, considering what happened to you there.

The countryside was kind of an indelible influence, regardless of the rest of what was going on.

Wow, the tree is stunning. I love that shallow-dome habit, and the flowers are beautiful.

The reservoir might be worth getting up at sunrise for, and I do not say that lightly.

The reservoir shot in particular is lovely, but they're all beautiful.

Evocative and beautiful. Thank you for posting them!

Oooh, gorgeous. (The first of the sunrise photos is pretty much exactly how I envisioned the landscape of the area based on the descriptions in All the Fishes.)

I think this is the first time I've seen pictures of India that weren't crowded with people. It looks different than I expected. The sunrise picture in particular is stunning.

Kind of like the US, cities and towns are crowded but when you get out of those, there's big stretches of land with not a person to be seen.

Wow.
Lovely photos. And they hit me with a pang of... homesickness?

Which is insane. Pune & surroundings have never been home, I saw more Gul-mohars in Saudi Arabia than I ever have in India (our street was lined with 'em), and I've been to Ahmednagar maybe once.

And yet.

Wow, the Gul Mohur one looks like a painting. Gorgeous!
