I pitched Secret Project # 1 today-- it went very well. I will post details on this later if anything comes of it.

It was not an ideal day to pitch, as Mel had her baby last night and I only got five hours of sleep-- despite the fact that I missed the birth. The plan had been for her to call me when it looked like there was less than a day of labor to go, so I wouldn't have to be dashing back and forth. She was in first-stage labor for three days, then went to the hospital, where they broke the water bag. It had gone on so long she figured she'd be pushing for hours and hours, but once she started pushing she delivered in twelve minutes. She did end up having an epidural for the last two hours, but as I pointed out to her, she actually did have the experience of giving birth naturally-- three exhausting days worth of it.

Sunday afternoon I'd thought "Woo-hoo! I can relax a bit now!" and watched the last disc of X/1999 for the third time. Spent most of it weeping. That anime really gets to me. So it was 1:00 am and I was still awake when Mel's husband called me to say that the baby was born and healthy, and that there was no point coming over right now, but Mel would love to see me first thing in the morning. So I got five hours of sleep before the pitch. But the baby is adorable, and Mel looks good, and I was the first person to see the baby who wasn't a medical person or family member.

I am amazed the pitch came out coherent. I was convinced I was going to call the chief villain (Miro) "Mel." But I survived with no horrible faux pas.

Manga Project # 1 pitches on Wednesday. God, I'm exhausted. But probably not as much as Mel is.
