I am about to take off for my parents' place in Mariposa (near Yosemite), where I will meet [livejournal.com profile] oyceter and we will bake blueberry scones and watch anime and hike and have fun for two days during which I swear not to do even one tiny little bit of work, which will be the first day that would be true in at least two months. (I will work a bit this evening, though.) I also plan to devote Friday entirely to reading manga. Woo-hoo!

The drive is five hours. I am bringing three flavors of Pocky, two tangerines, a grapefruit, a package of turkey jerky, a package of pine nuts, Gatorade, assorted music, and unabridged CDs of The Golden Compass read by Philip Pullman (yes, I've read it before) and Master and Commander.

Also happy because I finally heard back from the Hodder publicist (who had been on a book tour) and can now book my tickets. (There were some major scheduling issues on my end due to having to teach in Arizona immediately after I was possibly booked to do interviews in London.) Also, apparently the interview with the British Marie Claire Magazine went well, and the piece on me and my book will come out in late May.

I will have internet access in Mariposa. If anyone wishes to continue the very interesting spoilery discussion in my last Samurai Champloo post, I am still reeling from the conclusion and would love to discuss it some more.

Which narrator for _M&C_, Patrick Tull or someone else?

(10/13 of the way through _The Surgeon's Mate_)

Tull has a lovely chewy voice and great European accents (though even he struggles with the long no-dialogue-tag exchanges between Stephen and James Dillon). Tull fans tend to disparge the other narrators, though I haven't listened to any of them myself.

It's not Tull, but I ended up listening to music instead.

Will definitely be continuing the spoilery Champloo discussion, never fear! Have fun!

*jealous*

You, Oyce, Yosemite, and Pocky. What a weekend. I'm only a handful of hours away...if I had one of those things with the wheels and the gas tanks. A functioning one, anyhow.

Enjoy! :)

You should come up some other time. I keep thinking of having a little retreat/mini-convention/possibly mini-writer's workshop up here with five or six fannish friends. We could go on hikes and cook and watch DVDs and have lots of fun.

Yaaaaaaaay!!!

So looking forward to this... I've had such a crappy week that it will be good to lie down and relax.

Made you an icon, because your other one made me laugh whenever I saw it.
