Someone in comments somewhere pointed out that if Veronica is the classic noir gumshoe, worldweary, wisecracking, and dogged, then the gender reversal makes Wallace her Gal Friday, and Logan, Duncan, and Weevil femme fatales. I can't believe I never thought of it that way before, and also note that Keith would have no place at all in a classic noir.
And of the homme fatales, now only Logan has never deliberately killed someone. I find that incredibly ironic.
I wonder if the culture of the local college will be much different from the culture of Neptune High. It looked like there was the same pervasive sexual violence and misogyny, but perhaps less class warfare because few of the lower classes would be able to get in, or afford to go if they did get accepted. I am hoping that the presence of the Pacific Islanders' Club signals that the creative team is not going to make the college virtually all white, nor drop the race and class issues.
I like the idea of three mini-arcs rather than one long one, partly because it suggests that Thomas et all realized that the plot got away from them last season. I bet "catch the roofie rapist" is the first.
Back to season two's finale, Veronica's dream was unsettling: she's cheerily hanging off Logan's arm, she's all Stepford-perky, and she doesn't know Wallace! Does Lilly being alive (and exploring bisexuality-- that was utterly plausible) make up for the loss of Veronica's relationships and personal complexity and growth? I wish the rest of the episode had that level of subtlety.

Wallace is *such* a perfect Gal Friday. That's really adorable. Mac would also fit in well in a gender-switched AU-- the archetypal geekboy assistant, like Giovanni Ribisi in "Sky Captain."
